I learned that in the future, a link can be found between violence and music. As of now, there is no definitive connection that can be found because there are independent factors such as home environments, school, friends, television, and more. When I started researching this question, I thought there was absolutely no relation between the two, but since I started, I now think that in the future people will find out music plays some part in violence in youth. The study done by Donald Roberts, it is shown that while lyrics plays a part in youth emotions, they are not as powerful as visual violence from the media. The research reinforced the point that there is no definite link between violent lyrics and music and violence among teenagers.
In my opinion, I think that music does not have an effect on whether or not teenagers act out and if it does, then it is not the only factor. I think that violent lyrics combined with media violence, other teenagers, and how a child grew up is what would cause our youth to be violent.

Entry 3 Draft 2
While I agree that music can have an effect on emotions, I don't agree that violent lyrics are directly to blame for violence such as school shootings. Artists, like Marilyn Manson and Rise Against,
are not the reason teenagers decided to shoot up a school. I feel that
it is the same as saying that because a gun was around, it is why
someone decided to shoot someone else, when in reality, the person chose
to pick up the gun and shoot them for their own personal reasons, not because they got the idea from seeing or hearing something.

I agree with the statement that music can have an effect on emotions.
Everyone has listened to or will listen to music that makes them feel
sad, happy, or angry. Also, someone's emotions can affect the music they
listen to. Sometimes, people will listen to sad music if they are sad
or having a bad day; if they feel good, they will listen to happy music.
Emotions and music tie together, and each one will effect the other.

Inquiry Question: Is Music to Blame for Youth Violence?
I chose this question because it is a debate I have been hearing for a while and I was wondering if there is any validity to it. I love music, and almost everyone listens to it. A lot of people say teens who listen to violent music also have negative feelings or act out. I thought it would be interesting to look up if there are any connections between the two and if it is possible to change someone if they listen to a certain type of music. This topic is personal to me because I listen to the type of music that people say have negative effects and I don't commit crimes, or have violent thoughts because of it. I think it is important because if there is no connection, people are not looking at the real problem behind violence in youth, so the problem would not be solved.

I learned that there can be a link between violence and music. There is no definite link, but there is a big possibility in the future that one will be found. I always thought that music had no role in violence, but after doing research, I think that there might be a small part. The research also reinforced the point that it isn't proven that music can be blamed for violence in teenagers.
